Perezi Kamunanwire became ambassador of Uganda to the United States on May 15, 2006.
Ambassador Kamunanwire previously served as his country’s permanent representative to the United Nations in New York (1988-96) and as ambassador to Germany (1986-88). Educated at Columbia University in New York, in recent years Ambassador Kamunanwire has been an educator and scholar. He taught at the City College of the City University of New York, where he also directed programs in black studies and international relations. Starting in 2003, he served as an adjunct professor at the Center for Conflict Management and Organizational Research associated with Sophia University in Bulgaria.
He co-edited “A Study Guide to Uganda” and contributed the foreword to “We, the PanAfrikans: Essays on the Global Black Experience,” in addition to writing many other scholarly articles in the field of international relations. Ambassador Kamunanwire is fluent in English and five African languages, including Lingala, Swahili, and Kinyrwanda.
