His Excellency Zwelethu Mnisi

Zwelethu Mnisi was appointed Ambassador of Swaziland to the United Nations on August 24, 2010.

Prior to his assuming his current position, Mnisi was a Counsellor at the Swaziland Embassy in Washington, D.C. From 2005 to 2007, he was a Counsellor at the High Commission of Swaziland in London, United Kingdom, after serving there as a Counsellor and Acting Head of Mission for two years. From 2002 to 2004, he was Chargé d’Affaires at the Swaziland Embassy in Copenhagen, Denmark, after serving as First Secretary of Administration there from 2000 to 2002. From 1997 to 2000, he was First Secretary of Administration of the High Commission of Swaziland in Ottawa, Canada.

A career diplomat, he first joined the Swaziland Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1993, where he worked as an Africa Desk Officer, focusing on the Organization of African Unity, Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the Southern Africa Customs Union.  

Mnisi received a Bachelor of Arts in international relations, Africa political studies, law, sociology and English from the University of Witwatarsrand in 1991. He also holds a diploma in diplomacy, which was sponsored by the Commonwealth Society, and in 2005 he completed the Induction Programme for Commonwealth Diplomats.

He was born in Mbabane, Swaziland in 1961, is married and has five children.
