Ambassador of the United States to the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste Karen Stanton. A career member of the Senior Foreign Service, Ambassador Stanton served most recently as the Executive Director of the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs.

A career member of the Senior Foreign Service, Ms. Stanton joined the Foreign Service in 1980. She served overseas most recently as the Management Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Singapore. Previous assignments overseas include Human Resources Officer in Beijing, and as Consular Officer in Islamabad, Beijing, and Hong Kong. In her early assignments in Washington, she worked in the State Department’s Operations Center as a Watch Officer, was a Special Assistant to Secretary of State George P. Shultz, and was assigned to the Department’s Consular Affairs and Human Resources bureaus.

Ms. Stanton received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Michigan and a Master’s Degree from the National War College (Class of 1999). She is the winner of the 2007 Luther I. Replogle Award for Management Improvement, two Superior Honor Awards, two Meritorious Service Increases and several group Superior and Meritorious Honor Awards.
