His Excellency Mr. Christopher Grima is Permanent Representative of Malta to the United Nations in New York. Previously Ambassador Grima served as Malta’s Ambassador to Austria and non-resident Ambassador to Hungary and to the Slovak Republic. Concurrently, Ambassador Grima was Malta’s Permanent Representative to the International Organizations in Vienna and to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). Ambassador Grima was born in Malta in 1964, and is a career diplomat with over twenty-five years experience in Malta’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He has served in many capacities in the course of his career and has experience in both multilateral and bilateral affairs.
Ambassador Grima was Deputy Head of Malta’s Missions in Vienna and in Brussels. He served in Brussels between 2000 and 2004 in the run up to Malta’s membership of the European Union. In Brussels, Ambassador Grima was Malta’s first Representative in COREPER 1, which is a core group of senior diplomats from the EU Member States who undertake technical preparatory work for Ministerial meetings. He also participated in the correspondent Ministerial Council meetings that fall under COREPER 1 responsibility. As a diplomat, Ambassador Grima has also served at Malta’s High Commission in London between 1987 and 1991 and at Malta’s Permanent Representation to the United Nations in New York between 1991 and 1995. He was also a member of the Cabinet of successive Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Malta between 1998 and 2000. Ambassador Grima holds a Masters Degree in Diplomatic Studies with Distinction from the University of Westminster in London.
Ambassador Grima is married to Mateja. He has two children, Hannah and Nicholas.
