Abderrahim Ould Hadrami was appointed Ambassador of Mauritania to the United Nations on September 11, 2007.
Prior to his new appointment, Hadrami was his country’s Ambassador to Côte d’Ivoire from 2002 to 2007. He served as Ambassador to Canada between 1999 and 2002. He won promotion to the rank of Ambassador in 1987, when he was appointed Director for Africa, Asia and International Organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.
His previous diplomatic service also included postings as First Counsellor at the Mauritanian Embassy in Senegal (1985); First Counsellor at his country’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York (1982); and Second Counsellor at Mauritania’s Embassy in Paris (1977 to 1979). Having joined the Foreign Ministry in 1975, he was subsequently seconded to the Protocol Office at the Presidency of the Republic.
Hadrami was educated at the Université d’Orléans in France and the Ecole nationale d’administration de Nouakchott in the Mauritanian capital.
He was born in Chinguetti, Mauritania, on December 31, 1953, is married and has four children.
