His Excellency Daniel António

Daniel António was appointed Ambassador of Mozambique to the United Nations on October 8, 2009.

Since 2004, António has served as Ambassador of Mozambique to Japan and the Republic of Korea. From 1995 to 2002, he was Assistant Secretary-General of the Organization of African Unity (transformed into the African Union in 2002) and served in the Political Affairs Department and the Administration and Conferences Department. From July 2002 to September 2003, he served as Interim Commissioner of the African Union Commission. From 1986 to 1994, he was Ambassador of Mozambique to Ethiopia and Egypt, and Permanent Representative to the Organization of African Unity.

In addition, António served as Ambassador of Mozambique to Cuba and Nicaragua from 1983 to 1986. From 1979 to 1994, he was a delegate to several sessions of the United Nations General Assembly and Organization of African Unity summits, and from 1978 to 1983 he was a delegate to the United Nations Law of the Sea Conference.

António was educated at Mondlane University, in Maputo, and studied international relations in Dar es Salaam, United Republic of Tanzania.

He was born in Mozambique in 1949, is married and has three children.
