His Excellency Einar Gunnarsson is the Permanent Representative of Iceland to the United Nations, New York. Previously, he was the Permanent Secretary of state, Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

Prior to that, Gunnarsson was the Director – Chief Negotiator to the Department of International Trade negotiations. In addition, he was Deputy Permanent Representative/ Minister- Counselor of the Permanent Mission of Iceland to the International Organizations in Geneva.

The ambassador was Legal Adviser and Deputy Director to the Defense Department, Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Reykjavik. And from 1992 to 1995 he was a Lawyer at the GAJ Law Firm also in Reykjavik.

Gunnarsson graduated from the Grammar School of Reykjavik in 1986. He also attended the University of Iceland, completing a Law degree. The ambassador is married to Elisabet Thordardottir, and they have two daughters.
