João Vale de Almeida was appointed by the European Commission on Feb. 17, 2010 to serve as Ambassador of the European Union Delegation to the United States.

Vale de Almeida has been director-general for external relations of the European since November 2009, after five years serving as the head of the private office to European Commission President José Manuel Barroso.

He will take up office in Washington in spring 2010 following host-country agreement procedures.
