Milorad Šćepanović was appointed Ambassador of Montenegro to the United Nations on June 4, 2010.
Šćepanović served as Deputy Minister and Head of the Department for Multilateral Relations from June 2007 until his appointment. , as well as non-resident Ambassador accredited to Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, since October of the same year. He was Ambassador-at-Large in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 2006.
From 1988 to 2006, Šćepanović held the position of Acting Deputy Minister for Multilateral Cooperation. Prior to this he headed the Directorate for the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE); taking on additional responsibility for the Council of Europe (COE) beginning in 2005 with the rank of Ambassador.
No newcomer to the Organization, Šćepanović served as Permanent Representative of the Socialist Republic of Yugoslavia (SRY), then of the successor State Union of Serbia and Montenegro to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva from 2001 to 2003. Prior to that, he was Chargé d’Affaires ad interim at the SRY Embassy in Warsaw from 1999 to 2001.
From 1998 to 1999 he was First Counsellor and Minister Counsellor, then Chief of Staff to the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs; having previously served as First Secretary and Counsellor in the Directorate for Europe, and Chief of the Sector for Middle Europe in the Foreign Ministry from 1997 to 1998. From 1991 to 1997, he served an earlier term in Warsaw as Second Secretary then First Secretary in the Embassy of the then Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY) and subsequently SRY.
Šćepanović graduated from the University of Belgrade in 1979 with a degree in political science. Born in 1956 in Kolašin, Montenegro, he is married and has two children.
