Her Excellency Enkhtsetseg Ochir


Enkhtsetseg Ochir was appointed Ambassador of Mongolia to the United Nations on October 1, 2007.

Prior to her appointment, Enkhtsetseg served at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia as Director-General of the Multilateral Cooperation Department from 2000 to 2007. In that capacity, she helped organize, and was elected Secretary-General of, the Fifth International Conference of New or Restored Democracies in 2003 and the International Follow-up Conference in 2006. She also oversaw the organization this year of the OSCE (Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe) -Mongolia Conference on strengthening the cooperative security between the OSCE and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) partners for cooperation. In her previous 12 years with the Ministry, she held the posts of Officer and Senior Officer of the Department of International Organizations, and as an Officer of the Europe and America Department.

Enkhtsetseg began her work with the United Nations almost 20 years ago. From 1992 to 1997 she was First Secretary and later Counsellor at the Permanent Mission of Mongolia to the United Nations. Previously, she was a member and Deputy Head of numerous delegations to sessions of the General Assembly.

While fulfilling her duties as a Permanent Representative, Enkhtsetseg would continue to serve as a member of the Governmental Advisory Board of the International Centre for Democratic Transition, based in Budapest, Hungary, and as a board member of the Mongol Cultural Heritage International Association, in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

Enkhtsetseg received her degrees from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations and Stanford University. She speaks Mongolian, English and Russian, fluently.

She was born in Ulaanbaatar on 26 November 26, 1961.
