Thomas H. Goldberger has been Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, Egypt since September 2014, and will assume duty as Deputy Chief of Mission upon the Ambassador’s arrival. He previously served as Assistant Chief of Mission responsible for political affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad from 2013-2014 and as Deputy Chief of Mission in Tel Aviv from 2010 to 2013. Before that, he was director of the Office of Israel and Palestinian Affairs at the U.S. Department of State, where he was responsible for coordinating U.S. support for peace negotiations between Israel and its neighbors. A specialist in economic affairs, he also served at U.S. Embassies in Ankara, Amman, Paris, and Riyadh, and as Executive Assistant to the Under Secretary of State for Economic and Business Affairs.
A native of the state of New Jersey, Mr. Goldberger is a graduate of Rutgers and Georgetown Universities and speaks French, Arabic and Turkish.
