Ambassador Tekeda Alemu has been a Diplomat for over Thirty years. He began his career at the rank of 1st Secretary in 1983, promoted within a few years as a counsellor and then subsequently as head of a department — first, as acting head of the International Department and then as head of the African Department.
He became Deputy Foreign Minister in 1991, then a State Minister, serving in those capacities for twenty years until he was made Ethiopian Permanent Representative to the UN in New York in January 2011.
Ambassador Tekeda, earned a B.A. and M.A. from UCLA and a Ph.D. from Claremont Graduate School. He taught at Addis Ababa University in the early 90’s with the rank of Assistant Professor. He was born in Addis Ababa on May 5, 1951.
