John Bernlohr is a member of the US Department of State’s Senior Foreign Service, holding the rank of Minister Counselor. He has previously served in the Congo, France, Indonesia, Hungary, the Republic of Georgia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Afghanistan, Washington DC and Moscow. Prior to joining the Foreign Service, he worked in the private sector in California and served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Philippines. He and his wife have two grown children. John has served on the boards of international schools in Surabaya, Budapest, Tbilisi, Sarajevo, and Moscow. He has an MBA from the University of California at Berkeley, an MA from Ohio University, and a BA from Harvard University. He considers himself a lifelong student and enjoys literature, music, sports, foreign language study, and travel.
