His Excellency Marc Pecsteen

The new Permanent Representative of Belgium to the United Nations, Marc Pecsteen, presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

Prior to his appointment, Mr. Pecsteen served as Director of the Office of the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Belgium from 2014.

Between 2011 and 2014, he was Belgium’s Ambassador to Rwanda, having previously served as Deputy Director of the Office of the State Secretary for European Affairs from 2009 and Consul General in Shanghai between 2006 and 2009.

He was Counsellor in Belgium’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York between 2002 and 2006, after serving in the United Nations Department of its Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1999 to 2002.

Between 1991 and 1999, he held posts at embassies in Buenos Aires, Islamabad and Vienna.

Mr. Pecsteen holds master’s degrees in law and in international relations from l’Université catholique de Louvain in Belgium.

He is married and has three children.
