His Excellency Fatou Danielle Diagne

Fatou Danielle Diagne became ambassador of Senegal to the United States on March 29, 2010.

Ambassador Diagne previously served as minister advisor to the Senegalese president on competitiveness and good governance (2008-10), minister in charge of competitiveness and good governance for Senegal (2006-07), president of AFAM/AfDB (African Development Bank) in Tunisia (2003-04), and technical assistant for the Banque Rwandaise de Développement in Kigali (2004-05). Ambassador Diagne — who has 16 years’ experience in development project financing and working in international banking institutions — was also a consultant for the Africa Department of the World Bank in Washington, D.C., and for Oikocredit International SCOD headquartered in Amsterdam (2001-2002).

In addition, she was a finance and development officer with the Société Marocco-Ivoirienne de Distribution de Produits Pétroliers et Dérivés in Abidjan (1997-2000) and an officer in the Loan Disbursement Division of the African Development Bank (1988-90). Prior to that, she worked at the Union Senegalaise de Banques in Dakar (1982-86) — handling high net-worth accounts, lines of credit for corporate entities, and loan and mortgage applications — and at the Banque Nationale de Developpment du Senegal.

Ambassador Diagne holds a master’s degree in development studies and option development banking from American University in Washington, D.C., and studied English, math and statistics at Georgetown University. She also studied small business management at the Ecole des Cadres du Commerce et des Affaires Economiques in Paris, as well as finance and accounting at the Université de Dakar in Senegal.

She speaks French, English and some Spanish.
