Ronald Jean Jumeau was appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Seychelles to the United Nations on August 23, 2007. He became Ambassador of the Republic of Seychelles to the United States on Sept. 6, 2007.
From 2004 until his current appointments, Jumeau was Minister for Environment and Natural Resources, and from September 2001 to 2003 Minister for Environment. He served as his country’s Minister for Culture and Information from 2000 until September 2001, and as Minister for Agriculture and Marine Resources from 1998 to 1999.
From 1993 through 1998, Jumeau served in various capacities, often concurrently. He was secretary to the Cabinet and director of research in the President’s office during that period, as well as secretary of the bipartisan National Economic Consultative Committee. From 1994 to 1998, he was also secretary to four inter-ministerial committees of the Cabinet, and from 1995 to 1998 he was responsible for the Government’s relations with the National Assembly. From 1991 through 1993 he was adviser, with special press duties in the Ministry of Education.
Jumeau was Chief Editor of both the Government daily newspaper Seychelles Nations and the Government-owned Seychelles Agence Presse. He was First Editor of Seychelles Agence Presse from 1980 to 1982. Before that, from 1978, he was a reporter in the Government Information Services. From 1986 to 1989, he was a journalism instructor at the School of Media Studies of the Seychelles Polytechnic and, from 1980 to 1983, he was the Seychelles stringer for the London-based Reuters International News Agency.
As a member of the Seychelles People’s Progressive Front (SPPF), he was part of that party’s delegation to the first and second Seychelles Constitutional Commissions in 1992 and 1993. He has been a member of the SPPF’s Central Committee since 1995.
Jumeau was born in Dar es Salaam, United Republic of Tanzania, on January 24, 1957. He finished his secondary education at Seychelles College in 1975. He is divorced, and has one child.
