Nguyen Thi Phuong Nga became United Nations Ambassador to Vietnam on Nov. 5, 2014.
Prior to her appointment, she was her country’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs since 2011. She served as Director General and Spokesperson for the Ministry from 2009 to 2011, and as Deputy Director General, Department of Press and Information from 2007 to 2009, having begun her career at the Ministry in 1988.
From 2004 to 2007 she was Counsellor, and then Minister Counsellor in her country’s Embassy in Belgium and Luxembourg, as well as at its Mission to the European Union. Between 1995 and 1998, she was the Press Attaché in Vietnam’s Embassy to Thailand.
Mrs. Nguyen received a Master in International Journalism from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations in 1987, in addition to Management Training at the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics and Public Administration.
Born in Ha Noi, Vietnam on 27 August 1963, Mrs. Nguyen is married and has two daughters.
