Hersey Kyota became ambassador of Palau to the United States on Nov. 12, 1997.
He previously served as a senator in the Palau National Congress (1990-1996) and on the Board of Directors for the Association of Pacific Island Legislatures (1992-1996). Ambassador Kyota also worked as the director of the House Legal Counsels’ Office (1989-1990), chief clerk for the House of Delegates in the Palau National Congress (1985-1988), and legal researcher for the House of Delegates (1981-1984). He earned a bachelor’s degree in art (1977) and a master’s degree in art (1979) from the United States International University in San Diego.
Ambassador Kyota’s interests include fishing, reading, playing baseball, basketball, chess and video games. He is married with five children.
