Max Hufanen Rai became Ambassador of Papua New Guinea to the United States on June 9, 2016.
Before Mr. Rai was Papua New Guinea’s Ambassador to the United Nations, he was the Directory-General of the Trade Division in his country’s Department of Trade, Commerce and Industry from 2014 to 2016. Prior, he served as First Secretary and Adviser to the Minister for Mining and Statutory Body from 2013.
Mr. Rai was Ambassador to China from 2003 to 2007, and Roving Ambassador to the Federated States of Micronesia and the Marshall Islands from 1997 to 2003.
He holds a graduate degree in international law from Australian National University in Canberra, and a Bachelor Arts degree from University of Papua New Guinea
Mr. Rai was Born on 15 January 1954. He is married and has six children.
