His Excellency Justin Siberell

Justin Siberell was sworn in as the U.S. Ambassador to the Kingdom of Bahrain on November 3, 2017.

A career member of the Senior Foreign Service with the rank of Minister-Counselor, Ambassador Siberell served from 2016 – 2017 as Acting Coordinator for Counterterrorism at the Department of State, and from 2012 – 2016 as Deputy Coordinator and Principal Deputy Coordinator in the State Department’s Bureau of Counterterrorism.  In those roles, he was responsible for the formulation and implementation of U.S. counterterrorism policy initiatives and overseeing counterterrorism assistance and capacity-building programs with key U.S. partners.

From 2009 – 2012, Ambassador Siberell served as Principal Officer, U.S. Consulate General, Dubai, United Arab Emirates.  From 2008 – 2009, he was the senior State Department representative to the Force Strategic Engagement Cell at U.S. Embassy Baghdad, Iraq.  Other overseas assignments include Director of the American Cultural Center in Alexandria, Egypt (2005 – 2008); Information Officer, U.S. Embassy Amman, Jordan (2002 – 2005); Political/Economic Officer, U.S. Consulate General Dubai, United Arab Emirates (1995 – 1997); and Political and Consular Officer,  U.S. Embassy Panama, 1993 – 1995.

In Washington, Ambassador Siberell completed tours in the State Department Operations Center and Executive Secretariat; as Desk Officer for Iran in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs; and as Executive Assistant to the National Security Advisor at the White House.Ambassador Siberell was raised in California and attended the University of California at Berkeley where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History.  He is a 2002 graduate of the State Department’s Arabic Language Field School in Tunis, Tunisia.  Ambassador Siberell speaks Arabic and Spanish.

Ambassador Siberell is married to the former Arnavaz Motiwalla.  They have three children.
