His Excellency Kairat Umarov

The new Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan to the United Nations, Kairat Umarov, presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General António Guterres on July 9, 2017.

Throughout his 25-year diplomatic career until his latest appointment, Mr. Umarov held various positions in his country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, most recently that of Ambassador to the United States since January 2013.  From 2009 to 2012, he served as Deputy Foreign Minister overseeing international organizations, including the United Nations, as well as bilateral relations with the United States and the Western Hemisphere.

In 2008, the Government of Kazakhstan gave Mr. Umarov additional responsibility as non-resident Ambassador to Sri Lanka, having been appointed Ambassador to India in August 2004.  He was also First Secretary and Counsellor (1994-1996), and later Deputy Chief of Mission (1998-2003) in previous service at his country’s Embassy in Washington, D.C.
