Kirk Wagar was sworn in as the United States Ambassador to the Republic of Singapore on September 4, 2013.
Prior to this assignment he was Managing Partner of Wagar Law, P.A., a Miami-based law firm that has represented individuals and small businesses in insurance disability disputes since he founded the firm in 1998 following Hurricane Andrew. Mr. Wagar served as the Florida Finance Chair for Obama for America in 2008 and 2012 and previously served as the Deputy Florida Finance Chair for John Kerry for President (2003 – 2004) and the Florida Finance Chairman of the Democratic National Committee once John Kerry became the Democratic Nominee for President. He served on the Sub-Saharan Africa Advisory Committee of the Export-Import Bank in 2010, and on the full Ex-Im Bank Advisory Committee for the 2011 and 2012 terms. Since 2002, he has been a member on the Board of Governors for the American Association for Justice and a member of the Board of Directors for the Florida Justice Association. From 2003 to 2005, he served on the Board of Directors for the Dade County Trial Lawyers.From 1993 to 1994, he was Chief of Staff of the National Model United Nations, where he previously served as Assistant Chief of Staff from 1992 to 1993 and served on the Board of Directors of the National Collegiate Conference Association (parent of the NMUN and an NGO of the United Nations) until 1998.
Mr. Wagar received a B.A. from Roberts Wesleyan College and a J.D. from the University of Miami. A naturalized U.S. citizen, Mr. Wagar was born in Ottawa, Canada but has lived in the U.S. since 1987, when he came to the U.S. to attend university at age 18.
