Ambassador Bowler has an MBA from the U.K. and a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering.

Ambassador Bowler’s interests include the telecommunication industry, property development and all aspects of business, along with golf, fly and rugby. His passion to life is bringing a voice to the voiceless and to his philanthropy projects that build birthing centers as well as water and sanitation programs.

Born in Blantyre, Malawi, Ambassador Bowler comes with a pedigree from the private sector as well as being Malawi’s Dean of the diplomatic corps.

Currently, he is a shareholder and owner of the national breweries in Malawi and Tanzania.  Previously, he was the Board Chairman of Malawi’s main investment company, Malawi Development Corporation, which is Malawi’s largest property developer overseeing investment in banking and finance, manufacturing, hotels and hospitality.

Ambassador Bowler also served as a Board Chairman of Air Malawi, the national airline. During his term as Chairman, the subsidiaries enjoyed growth as well as substantive profits.

Ambassador Bowler was also one of the founding trustees for the National AIDS Commission (NAC). This important body served as a main coordinating organ in Malawi’s fight against this deadly disease. During his tenure at NAC, he served as the Head of the Finance Committee.

Prior to his appointment to the UN, Ambassador Bowler was Malawi’s first High Commissioner to India, and served as Ambassador to Belgium, France, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Holland. He was also accredited to the European Union, European Parliament, the Criminal Court in the Hague, the African Caribbean Pacific (ACP) Group of States Secretariat, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the World Trade Organization (WTO), and the World Food Programme (WFP). Ambassador Bowler was the lead negotiator for trade and services under the economic partnership agreement between the European Union and the Eastern and Southern Africa economic bloc. He also served as adviser to several heads of states as well as several prominent think tanks.
